Volunteers in Service "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth." Muhammad Ali (Veteran Boxer)

Volunteers in Service (VIS)

Volunteer Work is an act in recognition of a need, with an attitude of social responsibility and without concern for monetary benefit, going beyond one’s basic obligations. Thus a Volunteer is someone who gives time, effort and skill to a need or cause without profiting monetarily.

Volunteers in Service (VIS) of University of Central Punjab (UCP), Lahore, Pakistan is a state-of-the-art program that’s being run since March 2007. The VIS program was implemented under visionary leadership of Chairman Mian Amer Mahmood. VIS program is run by a dedicated team that’s called Volunteers in Service (VIS) Department. Efforts made by VIS have been acknowledged in the form of international memberships from UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT (UNAI) and INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR VOLUNTEER EFFORT (IAVE). IAVE USA has also declared UCP-VIS as their National Representative in Pakistan from February 2018.

VIS Program is by far the best Volunteerism Promotion Program (VPP) in South Asia. You won’t find a proper, well-recruited, well-reputed, well-defined and well-organized department for promotion of community service at any university in Pakistan and most probably in South Asia. Volunteers in Service (VIS) Department encompasses many-fold activities, all of which are directly focused at providing social benefit to the community and sensitizing our youth to step-up to the occasion, to work as volunteers and to do something for those who cannot do anything for themselves. VIS department not only facilitates students in volunteering through different partner organizations, including national and international, but also plans and executes some field activities termed as “Campaigns”. These are designed according to the need of society or some natural calamity. Some of the campaigns that VIS department has planned, organized and executed are as follows:

  1. Plantation Drives
  2. Deewar-e-Aagehi (Wall of Awareness)
  3. Dengue Preventive Spray and Free Test
  4. Flood Relief and Rehabilitation Activities
  5. Clothes Bank (with Akhuwat)
  6. Fund-Raising for IDP (in support of Govt. of Pakistan)
  7. International Day for Disabled Persons (with Punjab Welfare Trust for Disabled)
  8. Deewar-e-Meharbani (Wall of Kindness for clothing the deserving)
